ESRC opportunity profile: Helping Scotland decide

The ESRC is funding five fellowships intended to inform the debate on Scotland’s 2014 independence referendum. Rebecca Hill discusses the call with ESRC's Charlie Jeffery and Strathclyde politics professor John Curtice.

The ESRC’s Future of the UK and Scotland programme is funding a series of projects in the run-up to the Scottish independence referendum in 2014. The last of the advertised opportunities, involving up to five senior fellowships closes for applications on 1 May.

Charlie Jeffery, the programme’s research co-ordinator and a member of ESRC’s advisory group, explains that: “When part of a state decides to hold a referendum on whether to stay part of the state or create a new one, that’s a pretty significant social science question.”
