Top PI Roderic Guigó: Mixing computing and genomics

During his 40-year career, Roderic Guigó, a programme coordinator at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, has seen huge changes in his research field. He tells Cristina Gallardo about the grants that have defined his career.

Roderic Guigó has been involved in the DNA revolution and the birth of bioinformatics—a term that hadn’t even been coined when his career began. After years of being on the front line of research in both disciplines in the United States, he took the difficult decision to return to his native Spain in 1994. There, he overcame financial instability and a lack of resources to build a successful career.
