The Wellcome Trust’s Pathfinder awards are designed to show that big doesn’t have to be better when it comes to biomedical funding, as grant manager Sarah Hardy told James Field.
Through its Pathfinder programme, the Wellcome Trust funds early-stage R&D projects in areas of unmet medical need. The scheme, which is open to applications four times a year, was revised in 2014 to allow for individual applicants as well as partnerships. Awards for projects are generally capped at £100,000 and evidence of match-funding is required for projects with commercial partners, but awards of up to £350,000 may be considered.
It’s not long ago that the trust overhauled its funding programmes. Was Pathfinder affected?
