While on maternity leave, Maria Liaskos won several prestigious grants, including a veski Inspiring Women grant. She tells Gerd Winter how she overcame the challenges she faced as a female scientist, and how the veski grant is making a real difference.

A microbiologist at La Trobe University, Maria Liaskos secured her medical research career by winning a National Health and Medical Research Council Project grant and one of four inaugural Inspiring Women grants from the Victorian veski foundation.
