My winning proposal: MQ trusts data to save young lives

Psychiatrist Rina Dutta won £50,000 in mental health charity MQ’s inaugural Data Science Awards. Lila Randall hears about her project to plumb NHS and Department for Education datasets in search of risk factors for suicide in young people.

Dutta is a consultant psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital in London and a Clinician Scientist Fellow of the Health Foundation at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London.

She submitted her project to the 2017 MQ Data Science Awards and was one of four winners announced on 4 July. MQ says that the awards will return, with the 2018 call due to open at the end of the year.
