Leverhulme boss: Be bold to capture centre funding

For the second time, the Leverhulme Trust is offering up to £10m over 10 years for ambitious multidisciplinary research centres. The boldest, bravest ideas will win through, the trust’s director Gordon Marshall tells Beckie Smith.

As you might expect from the Leverhulme Trust, its Leverhulme Research Centres 2018 competition, which opens to applications on 4 September, will operate in responsive mode, with no restrictions on the subjects centres can focus on.

The trust says that applicants must make a compelling case that their centre will take an approach that could transform understanding of the chosen topic. Critically, they must contribute significant added value beyond what a smaller initiative could achieve, and must not duplicate work already happening on a similar scale.
