My winning proposal: ‘Avoid overstuffing your fellowship bid’

Applications to the AHRC’s leadership fellows scheme should be about more than just research. But don’t make your bid too busy, David Higgins, a previous fellow, tells Anna McKie.

David Higgins, an associate professor in English Literature, completed his 16-month Arts and Humanities Research Council leadership fellowship in August.

His project, on British romantic writing and environmental catastrophe, was awarded £167,601 in 2016 and helped to put the burgeoning discipline of environmental humanities on the map in the UK.
