My winning proposal: Beating a path to an AHRC fellowship

Tanya Wyatt’s road to academia was a winding one, including spells as a police officer on the beat in the United States and a peace worker in Ukraine. Now an AHRC Leadership Fellow, she tells Beckie Smith what she learned along the way.

Tanya Wyatt is an associate professor in criminology at Northumbria University and co-lead of the university’s environmental and global justice research theme. Her principal research interest is in green criminology, a field that considers environmental and wildlife-related harms from a criminology angle.

Previously a deputy sheriff and member of the United States Peace Corps, since joining academia she has been a principal investigator and co-investigator on grants from the Economic and Social Research Council, the Newton Fund, the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust.
