Opportunity profile: All eyes on macular degeneration

The Macular Society is focused on finding a cure for macular disease but also wants to help patients with their lives now. That’s why the charity also funds social scientists, research officer Geraldine Hoad tells Beckie Smith

Geraldine’s top tips

  • Read the charity’s research strategy and check what has been funded in the past.
  • Observing the typesetting requirements for your application is particularly important as bids will be read by one person with macular degeneration.
  • The charity is open to co-funding research projects and also to bids for small grants.
  • The charity will fund either biomedical or social research, so researchers from diverse disciplines are encouraged to apply

The Macular Society’s Research Grants cover research into causes and prevention, early detection, treatments or improving quality of life for people with macular disease.
