My winning proposal: Perfect capture of a Standard Grant

In 20 years of grant applications, Bill Gaver has rarely had a bid so warmly received as his pitch to the EPSRC for a project involving build-it-yourself camera traps for backyard wildlife. Buy-in from the BBC helped, he tells Martha Henriques.

Bill Gaver, a professor of design at Goldsmiths, University of London, led a successful application for a Standard Grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in 2016.

His team won £771,440 to set up a project called Citizen Naturewatch, which has links to the BBC’s popular Springwatch series.
