The EPSRC has launched two calls aimed at using mathematics to tackle development challenges. Applicants should take Official Development Assistance criteria seriously, senior portfolio manager Matt Lodge tells Martha Henriques.

Matt’s top tips

  • The two calls focus on a wide range of development challenges—you can address these broadly or individually.
  • Expressions of interest will be checked for Official Development Assistance (ODA) compliance, so get this locked down from the start.
  • Always read the call document thoroughly before applying—many researchers won’t.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s Tackling Global Development Challenges Through Mathematical Sciences calls are both supported by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).
