All change at the NHMRC

The National Health and Medical Research Council launched its revamped competitive grants programme last year. Gerd Winter talks to the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes about what the changes might mean.

The funding future for Australian health and medical research looks bright. The budget for the Medical Research Future Fund is potentially set to double by 2020-21 from around A$800 million available today through the National Health and Medical Research Council.

However, with the fund’s array of opportunities, the landscape is increasingly complex. Added to this, applicants are faced with a revamped programme of competitive NHMRC grants following a major structural review in 2017.
