When applying for the EPSRC’s equipment funding, think about how the kit will benefit others in your university and beyond, seasoned grant-winner Alastair Florence tells Ben Upton.
Alastair’s top tips
- Consider who might use the equipment and how you might make it accessible to them.
- Draw on existing contacts to make the case for how the grant will have wider impact.
- Refer to the EPSRC’s Equipment Roadmaps.
- Think first about how the tool will enable excellent research, but also align your bid with the strategic priorities of the EPSRC.
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s Strategic Equipment grant offers researchers funding to buy research instruments or facilities costing more than £400,000. There are usually several rounds a year, with the next due to close on 3 September.
