In the second of our interviews with UK Research and Innovation’s Future Leaders Fellowship winners, quantum physicist Sanjeev Kumar tells Fiona McIntyre how he captured the prize.

Sanjeev’s top tips

  • Show that you have a clear vision of why you want this fellowship specifically and why no other would fit.
  • Take the interview stage seriously; make sure you conduct mock interviews with colleagues in your department.
  • Do your homework on the panel by reading their profiles and getting to know their backgrounds.

UK Research and Innovation’s Future Leaders Fellowships offer up to seven years’ funding, allocated on a ‘4+3’ basis with a review in the fourth year. They are open to early-career researchers anywhere in the world who have secured the support of a UK institution, where they will be based. The aim is to enable fellows to establish their independence in research or innovation.
