An excellent grant idea will not get far if the panel doubts its successful execution

Top tips on big bids:

  • Remember, it is not just having a bold idea that matters, you need to put in place procedures that convince panels you can carry it out.
  • Split your project up into work packages; this will help you with project management and give the bid greater intelligibility.
  • Big bids should benefit the wider scientific culture in some way so think about career development for students and postdocs.
  • See if internal funding is available for coaching when you are writing the bid.
