Collaborating with museums and galleries can open doors to new funding opportunities

Top tips:

  • Find out if funders have additional funding pots available for outreach or public engagement exercises for researchers who have already won a grant
  • Take time to understand how museums operate and make sure your priorities line up with theirs for joint projects
  • Make the most of the publicity expertise and audience reach of museums and galleries

For most researchers, museums fall into one of two categories—either useful repositories of artefacts for study, or somewhere to visit with the family at the weekend. But combining these two categories can unlock potential new funding opportunities, through access to public engagement grants or by partnering with museums on projects combining research and public exhibitions.
