Opportunity profile: With method in mind

The ESRC call meeting 21st century multidisciplinary methodological challenges

Top tips:
  • Proposals should clearly set out how the outputs and outcomes of the proposed activities will contribute to advancing a methodological challenge in the social sciences
  • Proposals are welcome from across the breadth of the social sciences but must include a collaboration from outside of academia or with researchers working in a disciplinary area which is outside of the social sciences
  • Previous experience of research methods projects is not required, but applicants should still show that they have the expertise needed to deliver the work

The Economic and Social Research Council has opened its capacity-building Research Methods Development Grants. Between 15 and 20 grants, worth up to £160,000 each at 80 per cent full economic costs for up to 18 months, are available. The council is also working with Administrative Data Research UK, an ESRC-funded initiative involving the Office for National Statistics, to support a further three or four grants on specified policy-related themes.

All applicants must submit an intention to submit form (which is not used for assessment purposes) by 19 March and then submit a full application by 14 May.
