The British Lung Foundation is keen to receive bids from researchers outside its usual ambit
Top tips
- Applications for smaller grants must involve a degree of novelty.
- Speak to patients about your idea, even for basic science proposals.
- Do not cut corners on experiment design and statistical analysis.
- If you lack previous experience in a specific disease area, but your bid is relevant, do apply—such bids can and do win through.
The British Lung Foundation targets its research-funding calls at specific diseases, but they are mostly open to all stages of research, not just translational work. At present, it has three calls open—in mesothelioma and pulmonary fibrosis—until 19 April 2021, all of which offer up to £40,000 per project.
