Attention to detail brings the Smithsonian Institution’s prestigious fellowships within reach

The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC needs no introduction—which is something that can put off a lot of early career researchers from applying for a fellowship there. This is a mistake, Audrey Lin, a postdoctoral fellow at Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, told us in October 2020. With a certain level of meticulousness, she said, applicants have every chance of succeeding.

The Smithsonian offers a range of fellowships each year. Its postdoctoral fellowships—each of which include a stipend of USD $55,000 per year, plus a research allowance of up to USD $5,000 for three to 12 months—are for scholars up to seven years beyond their PhD. The deadline for applications is 1 November.
