Building a research programme with small project grants from a specialist vision charity

A recurring theme in Funding Insight articles is how small pockets of funding can be used to build something big, and this is particularly the case for our archive selection this week. In this article, first published in April 2020, Majlinda Lako, professor of stem cell sciences at Newcastle University, details how she built an ambitious programme of work via three successive Research Grants from the Macular Society.

These grants are open now, with a deadline for applications of 29 May. They are intended to support clinical or lab-based research to improve the treatment or quality of life of patients with macular disease. Grants are worth up to £250,000 each over three years.
