My winning proposal: AHRC ‘likes the weird and wonderful’

A research, development and engagement fellow on why it’s worth avoiding the familiar

Top tips

  • Get as many colleagues as possible to look over your proposal.
  • Don’t wait to be completely happy with your application before submitting; this may never happen.
  • Don’t assume the AHRC is looking to fund the same things it’s funded in the past.
  • Consider submitting visual material together with your application.

Renamed and reconfigured from its previous incarnation as the Leadership Fellows scheme, the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Research, Development and Engagement Fellowship programme is for researchers who are ready, in the AHRC’s words, to “undertake ambitious, innovative research and to develop capabilities as research specialists”.
