University support is essential to get to grips with a Follow-on Fund application

A mainstay of the UK biological science funding landscape, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s Follow-on Fund aims to take research-led ideas through to a stage where the route to application is clear.

The scheme’s first round in 2024 is running with a change from previous years, when grants were available in two sizes. Now there is just one competition, for bids of between £100,000 and £800,000 (funded by BBSRC at 80 per cent of the full economic cost). The deadline is 27 March. The BBSRC is running a webinar on 8 February to familiarise applicants with the changes.
