My winning proposal: Plan ahead for Leverhulme success

The Leverhulme Trust’s Major Research Fellowships require a careful build-up and diligent plotting and planning

Top tips

  • One or two years of preliminary research are usually needed in application to this scheme
  • Detail the planned content of your research output (normally a monograph)
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for the money needed to complete the research, just make sure you justify it
  • Take care and time to secure the right referees

The Leverhulme Trust’s Major Research Fellowships scheme aims to support humanities and social science academics at UK universities to complete an original piece of research, which most often culminates in a book. The trust says the fellowships are particularly for those who have been prevented from doing original research by “routine duties”.
