What UKTI is doing for the life sciences

UK Trade and Investment established the Life Science Investment Organisation in 2012 to support overseas investment in the life sciences. Mark Treherne, LSIO chief executive, explains what the organisation can do to help.

The life sciences industry faces increasing challenges, from the rising costs and increasing complexity of R&D to marketplaces that are evolving in response to ageing populations, the prevalence of chronic diseases and escalating healthcare costs. The UK’s commitment to addressing these challenges was documented in the Strategy for UK Life Sciences, launched in December 2011.

The progress made to date has focused on streamlining scientific discoveries into innovative technologies, products, and services—making the process smarter, better and faster, leading to quicker returns for patients, businesses, and investors.
