GDPR: What you need to know

The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation will come into force on 25 May and will affect anyone who processes personal data. In this article Sarah Dickson from the MRC’s Regulatory Support Centre explains how GDPR will affect researchers.

For many of us, the GDPR is not on the radar: European initiatives with four letter acronyms don’t tend to captivate us. However, this regulation will affect us all, as either the provider or user of personal data. It’s time to understand what it means for us, and in particular for those of us doing research.
