GDPR questions answered (3/3): Subject rights, open data, liability

In the final article answering researchers’ questions on the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation, Sarah Dickson and Rachel Smith of the MRC Regulatory Support Centre look at participant rights, open data and liabilities.

On 25 May GDPR will come into force in the UK and the rest of the EU, and the data protection bill passing through parliament will provide additional practical detail for the UK. Together they will supersede the existing Data Protection Act 1998. The new legislation has raised a number of concerns among researchers. Here we can take the opportunity to challenge some of the GDPR myths that have arisen.
