The Medical Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council are preparing to launch a call in alcohol misuse as part of the MRC’s funding for mental health.
“We’re trying to bring the social and biological together,” said Gavin Malloch, programme manager for mental health at the MRC. “It’s about understanding how the genes that pre-determine how a person is going to develop interact with the various triggers from the environment.”
Malloch did not say when the call was to be expected, but added that the two councils have a history of working together “in the area of addiction and substance abuse”.
