University dropout rates revealed

London Metropolitan University has reported the highest dropout rate for first-year students among traditional providers, data on continuation rates have revealed.

Data published today by the Higher Education Statistics Agency show the proportion of students who started their degree in 2016-17 but were no longer in higher education the following year.

Some 18.6 per cent of full-time first-year students who enrolled at London Metropolitan University failed to continue to their second year. The University of Bolton has the second-highest dropout rate at 15.4 per cent, according to the statistics, which do not include alternative providers.
