Student registrations increase for fourth consecutive year and are nearly back to 2012 levels
The latest data release from the Higher Education Statistics Agency shows that the number of undergraduate students in the UK is continuing to rise but is yet to return to where it was before the introduction of £9,000 tuition fees in England.
The number of first-year students registering for an undergraduate degree in 2018-19 hit 585,010, which is the highest in 10 years. However, the continued decline in subdegree students—mostly part-time and mature learners—means the combined student population of undergraduates and postgraduates of 2.38 million remains lower than the 2.5 million in 2011.
