First years say they struggle to cope with university life

Nearly nine in ten students in their first year at university said they found it difficult to cope with social or academic aspects of university life, a study has found.

The University Partnerships Programme’s annual student experience survey, published on 7 September, found that 87 per cent of first years struggle to adjust to their new lives at university.

The survey suggests that women in particular find it tough to manage, with 91 per cent struggling to adjust, compared with 82 per cent of men.
