The Office for Students is to set up a group that will examine the barriers faced by disabled students, and aim to improve the support that they receive.

The Disabled Students’ Commission was announced on 27 June by the universities minister, Chris Skidmore. He said the commission—which replaces the Disabled Students’ Sector Leadership Group—will identify and promote good practice to help those with disabilities have a positive experience at university.

“Living with a disability should never be a barrier to entering higher education and as universities minister, I am determined to ensure disabled students get the support they need to have a positive, life-changing university experience,” Skidmore said, addressing the Festival of Higher Education hosted by the University of Buckingham.
