OfS spends almost £200k on registration challenges

Regulator racks up legal bill over registration decisions made by the end of last year

The Office for Students had spent almost £200,000 on legal clashes relating to registration decisions by the end of 2019.

A freedom of information request by Research Professional News revealed that between 1 January 2018—when the OfS was set up—and the end of 2019 the regulator had racked up a bill of £309,821.22 to cover legal action and lawyers’ fees. Of that, £182,513.08 was spent on cases dealing with the OfS’s registration decisions.
