Only seven university access plans approved without changes

OfS reveals that most widening participation plans have mitigations, as minister calls failings ‘damning’

The majority of universities’ access and participation strategies have been subject to mitigations, the Office for Students has said, warning higher education institutions that they must pay more attention to improving access for mature students and disadvantaged applicants.

Commenting on the analysis, universities and science minister Chris Skidmore said it was “damning for the sector” that there were still large gaps between disadvantaged students and their peers.
