Arts hit as increase in student numbers for STEM leaves less money to go around
Universities can expect an average cut of 19.3 per cent funding from the teaching grant, the Office for Students has warned as it set out its plans to distribute recurring and capital money for the next academic year. Arts subjects and London institutions will bear the brunt as the regulator redirects cash towards high-cost subjects.
The OfS said it is likely that there would be a drop in funding per student as the money it receives from the government to supplement tuition fees has to pay for an increase in the number of students entering higher education, as it opened consultations on how it could distribute the recurring teaching and capital grants in 2021-22.
