International collaboration with universities and colleges in India is likely to become easier as power is devolved from central government to the states, according to a report published today by the British Council.
The Indian higher education system is the second largest in the world with almost 30 million students enrolled in 48,500 institutions. It is also rapidly growing: of the 190 state universities in the country, 176 were established in the past decade. But most students are enrolled in private institutions.
