Call for an industrial revolution in higher education

Engineering and manufacturing firms urge the government to improve graduate skills.

The government should create more degrees with a vocational component and promote better links between universities and industry, according to a manufacturing and engineering trade association.

Semta, which represents 138,000 companies in advanced manufacturing and engineering, said one-in-five of its members had already suffered from shortages of graduates in science, technology, engineering and maths, and a third expected to do so in the coming years.
