A framework for strategic economic development is needed, according to the Industrial Strategy Commission.
The UK has “a compelling need to introduce a framework for strategic economic management” but it will be essential to lay the “correct foundations” for the new strategy before specific policies are developed, according to the first report of the Industrial Strategy Commission, published on 10 July.
The commission, formed by academics based at the universities of Manchester and Sheffield, was launched in March as an independent inquiry into the industrial strategy being prepared by the government.
