The vice-chancellors’ group Universities UK has chosen Julia Buckingham, Brunel University London’s vice-chancellor, as its next president.
On 15 March, UUK announced that Buckingham will take over from current president Janet Beer, vice-chancellor of the University of Liverpool. Buckingham will start the role on 1 August and her term will run for two years.
“In the current climate of uncertainty and unprecedented change, universities—whatever their specialism, mission or geography—are in a position to make a huge difference to the country, to the economy and to individuals’ lives,” Buckingham said in a statement.
