Two strike ballots are set to open on Monday, the University and College Union has confirmed.
The UCU’s higher education committee confirmed on Friday that the ballots—one for 69 institutions calling for strike action over the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and one for 147 universities asking members to strike over pay—will open on 9 September and close on 30 October.
The USS ballot is going ahead despite last-minute talks between employers and the union for a compromise on contributions to the pension fund. Employers offered the union a contribution rate of 9.1 per cent of salary in return for calling off the ballot.
