Cleaning staff at Goldsmiths, University of London, have been brought back in-house following a six-month transition process.
A total of 95 cleaners have become employees of the university rather than third-party agencies. The university said the move would give cleaners better employment conditions and rights such as up to six months of full sick pay and 36 days of leave a year, and annual pay rises.
The university’s council set out plans to bring cleaning staff in-house in September 2018. As almost 100 members of staff were transferred, the university gave itself a six-month transition period from 1 November 2018 to carry out the move.
