Vicky Blake has been named as the University and College Union’s next vice-president.

Blake, who was standing on an independent ticket, prevailed over two other candidates: Jo McNeill, who was aligned to the UCU Left group; and Adam Ozanne, aligned to the Independent Broad Left. Blake is the first unaligned candidate to take the role.

Although Ozanne secured the highest number of first-preference votes, the election is run on a transferable vote system. McNeill received the fewest first-preference votes overall and was eliminated in the first round. Once her voters’ second preferences were taken into account, Blake won the election by 7,035 votes to 5,809.
