Universities UK and the University and College Union are to meet today to discuss pension contribution levels, with UCU boss Jo Grady calling for a long-term solution to the disputed Universities Superannuation Scheme.
Representatives of vice-chancellors’ body UUK and the lecturers’ union UCU are to hold talks on 4 September in advance of a ballot on industrial action scheduled for Monday. The union and employers remain in dispute over the latest rises in contribution levels to the USS pension scheme.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the meeting, Grady said the union wanted to “resolve the valuation properly” rather than focus on the “interim solution” of shifting contribution levels. She said that failure to agree a long-term approach to valuation would “destabilise the whole scheme”.
