Public pensions ruling will have less impact for lecturers

Members of the Teachers' Pension Scheme may not benefit from going back to a final salary scheme

Lecturers in the Teachers’ Pension Scheme are being advised that despite a recent employment tribunal ruling affecting public sector scheme benefits, younger members could be better off under the new terms of the TPS.

Christine Haswell, national pensions official at the University College Union, told Research Professional News that an 18 December ruling on firefighters’ pensions—which allows members to keep benefits that were removed from public sector schemes in 2015—was unlikely to improve the situation for younger members of the TPS.
