The new vice-chancellor of the University of Reading has not ruled out closing its campus in Malaysia if it fails to prove its worth.
In his first media interview in the role, Robert Van de Noort told HE he was “looking at options” for the trouble campus, which has so far lost the institution more than £25 million.
“We are looking at what options are available to us, but we will treat our students and colleagues with the same respect that I would give students and colleagues here on this [UK] campus. We can’t give a kneejerk reaction [just] because financially things don’t really work that well [at the moment],” he said.
