Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has become a patron of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
The duchess is taking over from Queen Elizabeth II, who has been a patron of the ACU since 1986. The ACU represents more than 500 institutions from across the Commonwealth and offers grants and fellowships for students and academics.
Announcing Markle’s appointment, chief executive of the ACU Joanna Newman thanked the Queen for her support. In a statement, she said: “We are absolutely delighted that HRH The Duchess of Sussex has chosen to become Patron of the ACU.
