‘Brave’ university boards needed to pioneer VC job-sharing

Fear of risk could stop boards approving two vice-chancellors to job share

Two people job-sharing a vice-chancellor role “would be a great example” to staff but there would need to be a university “brave enough to take it on”, according to an expert on universities.

Alison Johns, chief executive of higher education charity AdvanceHE, told Research Professional News that while it would be “wonderful” to see two people appointed to a vice-chancellor role, the governing bodies that appoint vice-chancellors might be too afraid of the risks.
