Academic calls for focus on BAME student success

A researcher has called for universities and education experts to stop talking about a “gap” in attainment for Black, Asian and minority ethnic students as it reinforces negative perceptions.

Louise Owusu-Kwarteng, senior lecturer at the University of Greenwich, told Research Professional News that bodies such as the Office for Students should “rephrase” the way they describe the attainment gap between white students and their BAME peers.
