Leaked report reveals USS advice on sacked whistleblower

As tribunal proceedings are lodged, report claims Jane Hutton had “breached her duty of confidence”

An extract from a report into the conduct of former Universities Superannuation Scheme board member Jane Hutton before she was sacked has been published online. The anonymous posting comes as Research Professional News learns that the case is set to go to a tribunal hearing.

Hutton, a statistician at the University of Warwick and an elected union representative on the USS board, was sacked in October for “breaches of her duties” as a trustee of the pension scheme. At the time, USS chief executive David Eastwood said the decision was based on “the findings of an independent, external investigation” into her behaviour and Hutton said she did not accept the outcome of the investigation and would be consulting with lawyers. The decision to dismiss Hutton was approved by all members of the trustee board.
