Russell Group fears ‘reputational damage’ over casualisation

Leaked report raises concerns about use of short-term and zero-hours contracts

Russell Group universities need to “show leadership” on the issue of casual contracts in higher education or risk “further reputational damage”, according to a leaked report.

At a meeting on 25 February, the minutes of which were leaked by the University and College Union on 3 March, Russell Group university representatives discussed how casual contracts can affect the physical and mental health of staff and negatively affect students’ learning.
