More places needed for student nurses, pleads NHS chief

NHS England asks universities to increase the number of degree spots for healthcare students

Universities have been urged to offer more places for student nurses following an explosion of interest in nursing careers as the coronavirus pandemic progresses.

NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens said on 12 May that the number of degree places for student nurses should be expanded following a 220 per cent rise in the number of people searching nursing through the NHS Health Careers website, compared with this time last year.
